The Labour Party in Taunton Deane

“The Labour Party is a democratic socialist party. It believes that by the strength of our common endeavour we achieve more than we achieve alone, so as to create for each of us the means to realise our true potential and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many, not the few, where the rights we enjoy reflect the duties we owe, and where we live together, freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect.”

We are proud to have an active Constituency Labour Party in Taunton Deane with over 700 members – a figure that has more than doubled in the past couple of years.

We welcome those from all walks of life who support Labour values of fairness and equality to join us, and for members new and old, experienced and novice, to come and get involved.

What We Do

Our primary goal is to get elected representatives onto our local councils and national Parliament. To this end, we facilitate campagining on a wide range of issues, canvassing, fundraising, policy discussion, support activities, socials, public events, and much more...

We are passionate about campaigning, not just at election time but for key local and national issues all year round. We'd love you to get involved - please contact our Campaigns Coordinator Mike McGuffie.

Canvassing and Voter ID

Sounds more scary than it is! Getting out there, identifying supporters, and talking to people about the issues they care about is a key part of our election strategy, and most people really appreciate a chance to air their views.

Member Meetings

We get together once a month to catch up and discuss the local political landscape. We often have guest speakers with specialist knowledge, and more recently, chocolate biscuits (thanks, Bob).

Supported by Jon Gray, our Policy Officer, we formulate our responses to local issues and feed policy ideas and priorities into the main Labour Party via our representatives on Labour's National Policy Forum. See more on Policy »

Fighting elections costs money, and we are always interested in finding new and interesting ways to raise it. Recent examples include a public film screening of Ken Loach's 'I, Daniel Blake', and a fundraiser dinner prepared by local catering students. Click here to donate!

Local Community Issues

Many of our executive and members are deeply involved in community campaigns and other groups, and we support these activities where we can.
